Charlie Griffin Road Closes for 17 Days at SR 39 in Plant City Starting Wednesday, FDOT Says
Plant City drivers lose Charlie Griffin Road at State Road 39 for 17 days starting at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday while crews rebuild the intersection in concrete - and the signed detour runs by way of Trapnell Road and Mud Lake Road.

A Plant City shortcut is about to disappear for more than two weeks. Charlie Griffin Road, just west of State Road 39 - the James L. Redman Parkway - will close completely for 17 days starting at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, the Florida Department of Transportation says, as crews replace the asphalt travel lanes with concrete pavement at the intersection. The closure is weather permitting.
Drivers who reach Charlie Griffin Road from SR 39 will detour via Trapnell Road and Mud Lake Road, with message boards and signage posted; FDOT reminds commercial vehicles and trucks to follow the posted detour and stay off local roads. The parkway itself is not closing: northbound and southbound SR 39 travel lanes remain open through this phase of the work.
The closure belongs to the SR 39 Pavement Reconstruction project, running from Rayburn Road to Golden Rule Lane. FDOT expects the overall project to finish in early 2027, weather permitting - which means Plant City drivers should expect the intersection work, in one phase or another, to be part of the commute for months.
