US 301 Traffic Shifts to the West Side at Big Bend Road in Riverview, and the Pattern Stays Through Summer 2027

FDOT's new traffic pattern at the Big Bend Road intersection keeps two lanes open each way while crews start work on the east side of US 301 — Riverview drivers get Gibsonton Drive and Sun City Center Boulevard as the named alternates.

US 301 Traffic Shifts to the West Side at Big Bend Road in Riverview, and the Pattern Stays Through Summer 2027 (Tampa Watch News)

A new traffic pattern is taking hold this week on US 301 at Big Bend Road in Riverview. The Florida Department of Transportation says all travel lanes on US 301 are shifting to the west side of the road through the Big Bend Road (County Road 672) intersection, so the next phase of construction can begin on the east side of the roadway.

The shift keeps two travel lanes open in each direction, northbound and southbound, and FDOT says this pattern will continue through the summer of 2027. To avoid congestion and delays through the work zone, the department suggests motorists consider alternate routes — Gibsonton Drive and Sun City Center Boulevard — and reminds drivers to slow down, stay alert and drive safely through the construction area.

The work is part of the project widening Big Bend Road between Simmons Loop and US 301 into a six-lane divided roadway, and replacing the intersection's existing asphalt pavement with a concrete surface at US 301 and Big Bend Road in Hillsborough County. FDOT posts project updates and traffic alerts on its Tampa Bay site.
